Who We Are

Who We Are

We are the original Military WAGS Choir set up in 2010 at Catterick Garrison, The Army of the North,  welcoming all ladies with a military connection. The acronym WAGS  represents Wives, Affiliates, Girlfriends and Servicewomen;  ‘Affiliates’ to include - Mothers, Daughters of serving Armed Forces personnel, Veterans, Teachers in the Garrison Schools and Ministry Of Defence establishment employees.

Since those early days, the choir has supported many ladies from differing military backgrounds. It is a  supportive and vibrant community which is well known and much respected across the North of England together with a reputation for producing wonderful singing.

The 2019 film,  ‘Military Wives’, starring Kristin Scott Thomas and  Sharon Horgan, was based on the conception of our choir,  with some of the original members appearing in the portfolio of choirs in the final credits.

The choir gained charitable status in 2013.

What We Do

Due to the transient nature of military life, we are always looking to recruit and welcome new ladies.

We meet weekly to sing alongside each other, support each other and enjoy each other’s company.

We also perform in concerts in various locations primarily throughout the North East

We meet regularly for social events and hold various fundraising activities

Becoming a member of the WAGS Choir is an easy way to form new friendships and join a social network of ladies with similar backgrounds and commonality.

Singing in a choir has scientifically been proven to increase well being, both mentally and physically. These benefits have certainly been evident for members of the Military WAGS Choir.

What We Do
Sing, Support, Socialise

Sing, Support, Socialise

We meet every Thursday at the Garrison Memorial Church from 5.30pm - 7.30pm. Auditions are not required to join, so come along for a taster session; you’ve nothing to lose!

A free creche is provided and led by our fully-DBS checked and experienced staff.

We perform at a variety of events and venues, military and non-military, singing a wide range of songs.

On the first Saturday of every month we hold a ‘Naafi Natter’ morning from 10.30am -12 noon at the Naafi in Catterick Garrison, where you can come and meet us outside of our normal rehearsal times.

We also host regular fundraising coffee mornings at Richmond Town Hall which have become very popular with choir members and the public.

Our annual weekend residential at Noddfa Retreat Centre in beautiful North Wales is a real highlight.  It is an opportunity to enjoy delicious food, good company and come back feeling refreshed!

Where We Are

We are based at The Garrison Memorial Church of St. Martin and St. Oswald’s, Church Rd, Catterick Garrison, DL9 4ES.

Our creche is held in the ‘Annex’ next to the church building.
